Doesn’t matter if you love or hate, artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life, from search engines and recommendation systems to smart devices and educational tools. As technology continues to influence the way children learn and work, schools also need to prepare students for a world where understanding technology is as important as using it. Keeping this changing landscape in mind, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new AI and Computational Thinking curriculum for students in Classes 3 to 8, beginning from the 2026–27 academic session.

For parents, this may raise several questions: What exactly will children learn? Does this mean coding from an early age? Will AI replace traditional subjects? And how can parents support their children?

Here is what you need to know.

Table of Contents

What Is the Role of AI and Computational Thinking in Our Students’ Future?

Computational Thinking

Role Of AI Education for Children?

CBSE Is Introducing AI and Computational Thinking at an Early Age.
What Is the Role of AI and Computational Thinking in Our Students’ Future?

Computational Thinking

Computational thinking is a way of approaching problems logically and systematically. It helps children learn how to break a complicated problem into smaller parts, identify patterns, understand information and develop step-by-step solutions.

It does not simply mean learning to code.

Children can develop computational thinking through activities such as:

Breaking a problem into smaller tasks

Finding patterns and similarities

Organising information

Creating logical sequences

Comparing different solutions

Identifying errors and improving solutions

Using reasoning to solve everyday problems

These skills can be useful well beyond the computer classroom. They support mathematics, science, language learning and everyday decision-making.

Role Of AI Education for Children?

Artificial Intelligence is the technology that enables computers and digital systems to perform tasks that normally require aspects of human intelligence, such as recognising patterns, understanding language, making predictions or generating content.

For younger students, AI education is not about turning children into AI engineers.

Instead, the focus is on developing AI awareness and responsible technology use.

Students can gradually learn concepts such as:

What artificial intelligence is

Where AI is used in everyday life

How machines recognise patterns

How data influences AI systems

The difference between human intelligence and machine intelligence

How AI-generated information can contain errors

Responsible and ethical use of AI

This foundation can help children become informed users of technology rather than simply passive consumers of it.

CBSE Is Introducing AI and Computational Thinking at an Early Age. Why?

Children are growing up surrounded by digital technology. They encounter AI through search engines, recommendation systems, voice assistants, educational applications and increasingly sophisticated digital tools.

However, using technology and understanding technology are two different things.

The new curriculum aims to encourage students to think critically, solve problems and understand the principles behind emerging technologies.

Early exposure can help children develop skills such as:

Problem-solving: Learning to approach challenges systematically.

Logical reasoning: Understanding relationships, sequences and cause-and-effect.

Critical thinking: Questioning information instead of accepting every digital answer as correct.

Creativity: Exploring different ways to solve a problem.

Digital awareness: Understanding how technology and AI affect everyday life.

Responsible technology use: Learning about appropriate, ethical and safe use of digital tools.

These skills are increasingly relevant as technology becomes part of higher education and future workplaces.

Does This Mean Children Will Have to Learn Advanced Coding?

Not necessarily.

One of the most important things parents should understand is that computational thinking is broader than programming.

Coding can be one way of developing computational thinking, but children can develop these skills through puzzles, games, logical activities, problem-solving exercises and real-world projects as well.

For younger students, learning should ideally remain age-appropriate and activity-based.

The objective is not to overload children with technical concepts. It is to help them become comfortable with logical thinking and technology-related ideas gradually.

How Will AI and Computational Thinking Change the Way Children Learn?

AI can become a useful educational support when used appropriately.

For example, technology can help students:

Explore unfamiliar concepts

Receive explanations in different ways

Practise problem-solving

Generate ideas for projects

Work with digital learning resources

Explore subjects beyond the classroom

However, there is an important distinction between using AI as a learning aid and using AI to avoid learning.

If a student asks an AI tool to complete an assignment and submits the response without understanding it, very little learning has taken place.

Schools therefore have an important role in teaching students how to question, verify and use AI-generated information responsibly.

Do Human Skills Still Matter?

The growth of AI does not make traditional learning or teachers less important. In many ways, it makes human skills even more valuable.

Children still need to develop:

Communication

Collaboration

Empathy

Creativity

Decision-making

Leadership

Independent thinking

Emotional intelligence

AI can process information quickly, but children need to learn how to decide what information matters, whether it is reliable and how it should be used.

A future-ready education therefore needs to combine technology with strong human development.

What Can Parents Do at Home?

Parents do not need to become technology experts to support their children.

A few simple habits can make a meaningful difference.

Encourage Curiosity

When your child asks how something works, encourage them to explore the question instead of immediately providing the answer.

Use Technology Creatively

Encourage children to use digital tools for creating, researching and experimenting—not only for entertainment.

Ask Questions About AI

If your child uses an AI-powered application, discuss how the tool works and whether the information it provides should always be trusted.

Encourage Problem-Solving

Puzzles, strategy games, building activities and everyday challenges can help children practise logical thinking without requiring a computer.

Teach Responsible Digital Behaviour

Children should understand the importance of privacy, online safety, respectful communication and checking information before sharing it.

Don’t Let Technology Replace Thinking

Perhaps the most important lesson is simple: technology should support a child’s thinking, not replace it.

What Should Parents Look for in a Future-Ready School?

As AI and computational thinking become increasingly relevant, parents may want to look beyond traditional academic results when evaluating a school.

Consider whether the school provides opportunities for:

Technology-enabled learning

Problem-solving and project-based activities

Computational thinking

Digital literacy

Creativity and innovation

Collaboration

Communication skills

Responsible use of technology

Exposure to emerging career fields

A future-ready school should not simply give students access to technology. It should teach them how to think, question, create and use technology responsibly.

If you are in Agra or living in surrounding regions,, try Milton Public School. Our school has all future ready technologies for childens’ growth

The Future of Education Is Not Just About AI

The introduction of Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence education marks an important change in school education. But the goal is not to make every child an AI specialist.

The larger goal is to prepare students for a changing world.

Children who can think logically, solve unfamiliar problems, evaluate information critically and use technology responsibly will be better prepared to adapt as technology continues to evolve.

For parents, the key takeaway is simple: AI education is not about replacing the fundamentals of learning. It is about adding new skills to them.

At Milton Public School, Agra, preparing students for the future means combining academic learning with skills that help them become confident, curious and responsible learners. As technology continues to evolve, the ability to learn, adapt and think independently will remain one of the most valuable skills a child can develop.

Are you confused about how to choose the best education board for your child? The concern is a significant decision that can shape their academic journey and future prospects of your ward. With various options available in India, such as CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education), and state boards, it’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed. So, CBSE, ICSE, or State Board – Which is the best? How to decide?

At Milton Public School in Agra, we understand the importance of this decision, and we’re here to guide you through choosing the best education board for your child’s needs.

Understanding the Differences: CBSE, ICSE, and State Board

Each education board in India has its own set of strengths and characteristics that shape your child’s learning experience. Thus, to choose the best education board is a mind-boggling question. To simplify it, let’s delve into the differences between CBSE, ICSE, and state board education:

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education):

CBSE is the most popular educational board in India. It is recognized by colleges and universities across the country and is chosen by a significant number of schools for its structured approach to education.

Known for its structured curriculum that focuses on core subjects.

Emphasizes application-based learning and problem-solving skills.

Common national syllabus, facilitating ease of movement between schools. For those who have transferrable jobs, CBSE delivers the best option.

Board exams typically follow a format that encourages analytical thinking.

Know More about the CBSE Board: Visit the Website

ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education):

ICSE is another nationally recognized board, however, with a slightly different curriculum structure. It’s known for its comprehensive syllabus that focuses on in-depth understanding and English as the medium of instruction.

Offers a comprehensive and broader curriculum that includes a wide range of subjects.

Mainly focuses on in-depth understanding and critical thinking.

Emphasizes project-based learning, and practical knowledge.

Assessments include both internal evaluations and external board exams.

Know More about the ICSE Board: Visit the Website

State Boards:

State boards differ from state to state, which means the curriculum can vary significantly. These boards are generally more focused on regional languages and cultures. They often conduct their own state-level exams.

Curriculum varies from state to state, allowing for regional customization.

Exams are conducted at the state level and may have differing formats.

May include state-specific language and culture in the curriculum.

Can provide a strong connection to the local culture and community.

Factors to consider:

Curriculum: CBSE follows a more structured and uniform curriculum, while ICSE offers a broader syllabus with in-depth understanding. State boards may vary widely in their curricular offerings.

Assessment Methods: CBSE generally follows a pattern of continuous evaluation and standardized exams. ICSE involves more project-based assessments and internal assessments. State boards have varying assessment methods.

Future Aspirations: Consider your child’s future goals. Some competitive exams might align better with CBSE’s syllabus, while ICSE’s approach can enhance critical thinking.

Extracurricular Activities: ICSE places emphasis on extracurricular activities, promoting well-rounded development. CBSE also values co-curriculars, while state boards may differ in their approach.

Geographical Mobility: If your job requires frequent relocation, CBSE’s consistency across regions might be advantageous.

Learning Style: Consider your child’s learning style—whether they thrive in a structured environment (CBSE), prefer a flexible approach (ICSE), or resonate with a more localized context (State Board).

Choose the Right Education Board: Steps to Follow

The decision should align with your child’s needs, goals, and learning style. Here are some steps to help you decide:

Research: Gather information about each board’s curriculum, assessment methods, and philosophy. Understand how they align with your child’s learning preferences.

Consider Your Child’s Learning Style: Does your child thrive in a structured environment? or, do they prefer a more comprehensive understanding of subjects?

Assess Your Child: Consider your child’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, and learning style. Some children might excel in a particular board’s approach.

Future Goals: If your child has specific career aspirations, research which board’s syllabus aligns better with the entrance exams of those fields. Research the specific requirements of the colleges or careers your child aspires to pursue.

Location Matters: If you anticipate moving to another state, national boards like CBSE might be more advantageous. On the other hand, if you’re planning to settle in a particular state, the state board might offer a smoother transition for your child.

Consult with the School, Educators: Consult teachers or educators for insights on how each board prepares students for higher education and beyond. Milton Public School in Agra, affiliated with CBSE, can provide valuable insights into how their curriculum aligns with your child’s needs.

Speak with Other Parents and Alumni: Gather opinions and experiences from parents and students who have gone through the boards you’re considering.

Visit Schools: If possible, visit schools following different boards to get a sense of the classroom environment and teaching methods

Consider Extracurricular Activities: Evaluate the school’s extracurricular offerings, as they play a vital role in a child’s holistic development.

Key Takeaways:

Ultimately, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” answer to the question of which education board is best. The decision depends on your child’s unique qualities and aspirations.

At Milton Public School in Agra, we understand the significance of this choice and are here to support you in making an informed decision. Our CBSE curriculum is designed to provide a balanced education that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and holistic development. Remember, the key is to choose the board that aligns with your child’s learning journey and empowers them for a successful future.
